HTC's new HTC Touch HD is now officially out, having been mistakenly placed on HTC's website earlier this morning.
The Touch HD, which we got to see at CTIA last week, is a new high-end touchscreen device that features a huge 3.8" 800x480 pixel touchscreen display with haptic feedback. The Touch HD takes an obvious swipe at the iPhone with its simple design and glossy black looks. Unlike the new iPhone 3G, though, the Touch HD has a flat back, though it still feels very good in the hand. The Touch HD runs a 528MHz processor and has a whopping 288MB of application RAM on board, which should enable this glossy black slab to juggle a lot of running programs at the same time without problem.
The HTC Touch HD features HTC's TouchFLO 3D user interface extensions running on a Windows Mobile Professional 6.1 operating system base. There are no regular navigation controls on the face of the HD - not even a d-pad. It does have a 5 megapixel autofocus camera, though, as well as a GPS module and HSDPA 3G connectivity. Music fans will be pleased by the inclusion of a regular 3.5mm audio jack socket for standard headphones, too. The HD has a half gigabyte of internal storage space available and supports high capacity microSD cards for additional storage space. WiFi and Bluetooth are also, of course, built in.
This new smartphone measures 115mm x 62.8mm x 12mm (4.5" x 2.5" x .5") in size and weighs a somewhat hefty 146g (5.2oz). It sports quad-band GSM/EDGE support and will also function on 900 and 2100MHz UMTS/HSDPA networks. It's large 1350mAh battery should power it for nearly 16 days of standby time, depending on the use of UMTS vs. GSM, and should be good for over 5 hours of talk time, too.
The HTC Touch HD should be available in Europe in Q4 of this year and will be launched elsewhere in the world later.
