In advance of the 2009 Mobile World Congress event that takes place in Barcelona next week, Sony Ericsson unveiled a new slider Walkman phone that targets younger consumers: the W395 Walkman. The W395 is designed to provide a solid music experience to everybody in the room, thanks to built-in stereo speakers that Sony Ericsson claims provide "thumping bass." The W395 also comes equipped with an FM radio and a stereo headset and features the Track ID music identification app as well as dedicated music controls.
The Walkman music player application itself is fully featured, and includes stereo widening and a built-in equalizer function. Of course album art is also supported, as are A2DP Bluetooth stereo wireless headphones and speakers. Music can be stored on the included 1GB memory Stick Micro (M2) card or in the phone's 10MB of internal storage.
The W395 can take on more than just musically related tasks, though. Its 2 megapixel camera has built-in support for both picture blogging and video blogging, and Sony Ericsson even includes a photo fix application for tweaking the photos after they have been taken. 3D gaming with motion control support is also found on the W395, and the games should look nice thanks to the phone's 262k color TFT display, which measures 2 inches in size and offers 176 x 220 pixel resolution.
Other features of note include a built-in HTML browser, a speakerphone, and a vibration alert for when the MP3 ringtones just aren't enough. Sony Ericsson says that the W395 Walkman's battery should be good for up to 8 hours of talk time, a whopping 20 days of standby time, or 12.5 hours of continuous music playback. The phone works on all four of the major GSM/EDGE network bands, weighs 96g (3.4oz), and should start showing up in select markets by the end of March. No word yet on pricing.
